Thugs hijack trailers carrying foodstuffs in Niger State, steal rice, others

In a concerning incident on Thursday in the Suleja Area of Niger State, suspected thugs hijacked trailers loaded with foodstuff, prompting soldiers to take action.

According to witness Alhassan Abdullahi, several trailers bound for Kaduna from Abuja were blocked by the hoodlums, who proceeded to steal many bags of food items, particularly rice, before the soldiers arrived at the scene.

The soldiers had to resort to firing gunshots in the air to scare the hoodlums away, although many of them managed to escape with stolen goods regardless.

Additionally, Abdullahi mentioned that there were rumblings of a potential protest by commercial motorcycle riders, adding to the overall unrest in the area.

This incident adds to the backdrop of nationwide hardship triggering protests across the country.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, declared a two-day mass protest scheduled for February 27 and 28, following the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government regarding the ongoing hardships faced by Nigerians.

Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman of the Northern Traditional Rulers Council, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, recently voiced concerns that the situation, with a significant number of Nigerian youths grappling with unemployment and food insecurity, poses a serious threat to the country’s stability.
