Tinubu directs NOA to launch campaign against fuel scooping

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to launch an immediate nationwide campaign to educate Nigerians on the dangers of scooping fuel from fallen tankers.
This directive comes in response to the tragic fuel tanker explosion at Dikko Junction in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State, which claimed over 80 lives and left many others injured.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, conveyed the President’s heartfelt concern over the tragedy.
“The President strongly advises all citizens to exercise caution and refrain from approaching accident sites, especially those involving fuel-laden vehicles, due to their highly explosive nature,” Onanuga said.

Expressing deep sympathy, President Tinubu extended his condolences to the bereaved families, as well as to the people and government of Niger State.
The President highlighted the preventable nature of the incident, noting that many of the victims were engaged in scooping Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from the overturned tanker.
Onanuga added, “The President has directed that comprehensive medical care be provided to the injured. He has also instructed security and road safety agencies to take necessary measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.”
