Tinubu seeks European Council President’s support in fighting poverty, enhancing security in Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu reached out to the European Council President, Mr. Charles Michel, on Wednesday, seeking support from the European Union in addressing poverty and insecurity in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.

During a telephone conversation, President Tinubu emphasized the need for assistance from the EU and other development partners to bolster security and economic development, thereby alleviating poverty across the continent.

The European Council, responsible for defining the EU’s political direction and priorities, played a crucial role in this regard.

President Tinubu specifically urged the EU to focus on security challenges in areas such as Lake Chad and the coastal regions.

He assured the European Council of his administration’s dedication to combatting poverty and insecurity, emphasizing his determination to take all necessary measures to address these pressing issues.

In response, President Michel conveyed his congratulations to President Tinubu on his election and expressed the Council’s commitment to fostering stronger cooperation and partnership with Nigeria, grounded in mutual respect and shared interests.

He emphasized the significance of Nigeria to both the EU and the international community.

President Michel also encouraged President Tinubu to continue working closely with the EU across various relevant areas.
