Troops foil Boko Haram abduction, rescue 74 NYSC members stranded in Borno
Troops of the Joint Task Force, North East Operation Hadin Kai, have rescued 74 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were stranded along the Buratai–Kamuya Road in Borno State, averting a possible abduction by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists.
The Media Information Officer of the Task Force, Sani Uba, confirmed the development in a statement released on Thursday.
According to Uba, the corps members — comprising 36 males and 38 females — were rescued around 9:05 p.m. on Tuesday after their vehicles broke down near a notorious kidnapping hotspot.

He explained that troops were swiftly deployed to the area after a military surveillance system detected suspicious movements involving three buses at the location.
“Upon arrival, the troops found 74 corps members stranded after their vehicles developed mechanical faults. They were immediately evacuated to prevent a possible abduction by Boko Haram or ISWAP elements operating in the area,” Uba stated.
He added that the rescued corps members are currently being accommodated at the Buratai military base while arrangements are being made for their safe onward movement.
The rescue operation came just days after the Task Force freed 86 kidnapped victims and arrested 29 suspected terrorist logistics suppliers during coordinated missions in Borno State.

In an earlier statement, Uba said troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion under Sector 2 OPHK encountered insurgents on November 9 at Dutse Kura, where they thwarted an abduction attempt and destroyed 11 makeshift terrorist structures.
Recovered items included an AK-47 rifle, five magazines containing 73 rounds, four PKT ammunition belts, several vehicles, motorcycles, and bicycles. The terrorists’ camp was later destroyed during clearance operations
