Two suspected ESN/IPOB gunmen killed as security forces foil attack in Anambra

Two gunmen suspected to be members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN)/the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have been neutralised in a foiled attack on security agents under the aegis of the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) in Anambra State.

According to Channels Television, the gunmen launched the attack around 3 am on Monday. However, the security agents were said to have “vehemently” resisted the assailants in a gun battle, recovering two AK-47 rifles.

The spokesman for the Anambra Police Command, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, who confirmed the development in a text message to Channels TV correspondent noted that the police were already in a joint operation with the AVG operatives to arrest the fleeing gang members whom he said “sustained gunshot injuries and otherwise during the unfortunate incident”.

“The AVG operatives repelled the attack in the early hours of today 19/6/2023 at their office at Okija, demobilized two of the attackers, and recovered two Ak-47 rifles. No life was lost among the operatives and the AVG office is still intact”.

“Also, the Command wants to use this opportunity to call on the proprietors of both private and public hospitals to admit but report all persons with gunshot or related injuries to the nearest police station”, he added.
