U.S First Lady, Jill Biden, tests positive for COVID-19

The White House has announced that Jill Biden, the First Lady of the United States, has tested positive for COVID-19.

This comes just days before President Joe Biden is scheduled to travel to India for the Group of 20 (G-20) summit.

However, the President who tested negative for the virus, is expected to continue with his travel plans.

Jill Biden, 72, experienced mild symptoms and had previously contracted COVID-19 in August of last year.

The President, now 80, had tested positive in July 2022.

In a statement, Elizabeth Alexander, the First Lady’s communications director, confirmed the positive test result and said Jill Biden will remain at their home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

President Biden, following the news of the First Lady’s positive test, also underwent a COVID-19 test, which came back negative.

The President will continue to be tested regularly throughout the week and monitor for any symptoms.

The impact of Jill Biden’s diagnosis on the President’s upcoming foreign travel plans is yet to be determined, and the White House has not yet provided a comment regarding this matter. However, according to the official schedule released after the announcement, President Biden is still slated to travel to New Delhi for the G-20 summit on Thursday, followed by a visit to Hanoi on Sunday.

As President Biden seeks re-election in 2024, there has been ongoing discussion about his age and fitness to serve another term.

Despite concerns raised by some Republicans, Biden’s allies maintain that he is capable of fulfilling his responsibilities as President of the United States.
