UAE reverses visa ban on Nigerians following Tinubu’s diplomatic moves

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has officially lifted the visa ban that had been in place for Nigerian travellers for the past ten months.

This ban had significantly impacted Nigerians who regularly visited the Middle East country for various purposes, including business, tourism, and leisure.

The turning point came when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, determined to resolve the diplomatic row between the two nations, took action.

During the presentation of his Letter of Credence by Ambassador Designate Amb. Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi at Aso Rock, Tinubu directed immediate efforts to resolve the issue.

Tinubu’s diplomatic efforts extended to Abu Dhabi, the UAE capital, after attending the G-20 Summit in India, as previously reported by Daily Trust.

In a statement released on Monday, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Presidential spokesman, announced the successful outcome of the meeting with UAE authorities.

He stated, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, have finalized a historic agreement, resulting in the immediate lifting of the visa ban imposed on Nigerian travelers.”

Ngelale continued, “In addition to the visa ban removal, both Etihad Airlines and Emirates Airlines are set to resume their flight schedules into and out of Nigeria immediately, without any further delays. Importantly, this restoration of flight activities is not accompanied by any immediate payment by the Nigerian government.”

Furthermore, as part of President Tinubu’s economic development diplomacy efforts, a framework has been established for several billion dollars’ worth of new investments into the Nigerian economy across various sectors, including defense and agriculture, by the investment arms of the UAE Government.

Additionally, a joint foreign exchange liquidity program between the two governments, negotiated by President Tinubu, will be detailed in the coming weeks.

In conclusion, President Tinubu commended UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his unwavering friendship and determined efforts to reset and normalize relations between these two important nations, aiming for excellence.
