“Unjust suspension invalidates the principles of natural justice”: Senator Natasha

The senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has condemned her suspension from the Senate, describing it as a violation of the principles of natural justice, fairness, and equity.

The Senate, on Thursday, suspended Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months, following a recommendation by its Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions.

The lawmakers also withheld her salaries and allowances as part of the disciplinary action.

Her suspension was based on what the Senate termed “total violation of the Senate Standing Orders, 2023 as amended.”

However, details of the alleged violation were not immediately disclosed.

Reacting to the development on her Facebook page, the senator criticized the decision, stating that it was an attempt to silence and intimidate her.

Her words: “Against the culture of silence, intimidation, and victim-shaming, my unjust suspension from the Nigerian Senate invalidates the principles of natural justice, fairness, and equity.”

She further insisted that the suspension does not affect her legitimacy as an elected senator, vowing to continue serving her constituents.

“The illegal suspension does not withdraw my legitimacy as a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I will continue to use my duly elected position to serve my constituents and country to the best of my ability till 2027 and beyond,” she concluded.
