US removes Canada from peace advisory body after Carney’s remarks
Former US President Donald Trump has withdrawn Canada’s invitation to participate in a US-led Board of Peace, following controversial remarks made by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney during his address at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
According to sources familiar with the decision, the move came hours after Carney’s speech, in which he criticised aspects of US foreign policy and called for a more multilateral global security framework that does not rely heavily on American dominance. The comments reportedly angered Trump and senior figures within his political circle.
A statement from Trump’s camp said Canada’s continued participation in the peace board was “no longer consistent with the administration’s vision and strategic priorities,” adding that membership required “clear alignment with US-led peace and security objectives.”

The Board of Peace, initiated under US leadership, was designed to bring together selected allies to advise on conflict resolution, global stability, and diplomatic engagement. Canada had been listed among participating countries due to its long-standing alliance with Washington and its role in international peacekeeping efforts.
Canadian officials confirmed that Ottawa had been formally notified of the withdrawal. While declining to escalate tensions, a senior government source said Canada “stands by its commitment to principled diplomacy and independent foreign policy positions.”
Prime Minister Mark Carney, reacting briefly, said Canada would continue to engage constructively on global peace and security through other multilateral platforms, including the United Nations and NATO.

Political analysts say the decision underscores growing diplomatic friction between Washington and some traditional allies, particularly over differing views on global governance, military intervention, and international cooperation.
