Veteran Kannywood actor, Alhaji Yusuf Barau is dead

Veteran Kannywood actor, Alhaji Yusuf Barau is dead. This is coming few days after the industry lost another prominent member, Ahmad Aliyu Tage, a photographer and comedian.

According to a statement from his family in Kaduna, Alhaji Yusuf Barau died after a brief illness. The news of his death hit Kannywood members like a pain in the neck because the death came at a point when they were still mourning the death of Ahmed Aliyu Tage, a very popular member of Kannywood who also died after a brief illness in Kano.

Recently, the industry also lost one of its pioneer members, Zainab Booth, the mother of Maryam and Amude Booth. Similarly, at the time of filing this report two of the industry’s front-line actors and actresses, Maryam Yahaya and Sani Garba SK are still recovering from an undisclosed ailment.

A source from Motion Pictures Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN), Kano branch told our correspondent that the industry is worried about the rate at which they are losing their members. As such, they will work on insurance policy very soon and also set up an endowment fund to help any of their member that died or in a financial crisis.

Alhaji Yusuf Barau is yet to be buried at the time of filing this report, his colleagues in Kaduna have continued to troop to his house to pay their last respect and arrange a proper burial for him.
