West Ham pile more pressure on Ten Hag, Palmer fires Chelsea to victory

West Ham increased the pressure on Manchester United’s manager Erik ten Hag with a dramatic 2-1 win, while Chelsea’s Cole Palmer inspired his side to a 2-1 victory over Newcastle on Sunday.

United were left frustrated after a series of missed opportunities in the first half. Alejandro Garnacho and Edson Alvarez each hit the woodwork, and Diogo Dalot missed a clear chance after rounding West Ham’s goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski. Meanwhile, under-pressure West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui responded to his team’s poor first-half performance with three substitutions at the break.

Crysencio Summerville, one of the substitutes, opened the scoring in the 74th minute. Though Casemiro levelled for United in the 81st minute, Jarrod Bowen scored a late penalty following a VAR-reviewed foul, sinking United to 14th in the table.

Chelsea, meanwhile, bounced back from last week’s defeat with Palmer at the forefront of their efforts. Though Palmer had an early goal disallowed for offside, he played a crucial role in the build-up to Nicolas Jackson’s opener. Newcastle’s Alexander Isak equalised before half-time, but Palmer scored the winner shortly after the restart. Newcastle missed a major chance to equalise as Isak couldn’t convert with 15 minutes left.

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace picked up their first win of the season, defeating Tottenham 1-0. Eberechi Eze set up Jean-Philippe Mateta for the only goal, while Tottenham, missing injured captain Son Heung-min, struggled offensively and slipped to eighth place.
