Wike warns of sanctions as Court orders FCTA workers to end strike
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has threatened sanctions against striking workers in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) following a court order directing them to immediately suspend their industrial action.
Wike issued the warning after the National Industrial Court ordered the workers to return to work, declaring the ongoing strike unlawful. The action was instituted by organised labour over unresolved welfare and salary-related issues.

The minister insisted that the FCTA would not tolerate disobedience to court orders, stressing that government activities in the nation’s capital must not be disrupted.
He directed all workers to comply fully with the court ruling, warning that defiance would attract disciplinary measures in line with civil service rules.

The strike had disrupted key services within the FCT, including administration, sanitation, and other essential operations, prompting concerns from residents and businesses.
Labour unions are yet to officially respond to the court order and the minister’s warning, as negotiations over their demands reportedly continue.

The development comes amid growing tension between the FCTA leadership and organised labour over workers’ welfare and conditions of service.
