Woman in Jigawa murdered, daughter found unconscious

Esther Adekanla, widely known as Hadiza Nakowa Dutse, was discovered lifeless in her residence opposite Awajil Filling Station Dutse, prompting a thorough investigation by the Jigawa State Police Command.

On the afternoon of February 15, 2024, authorities received information about Esther’s disappearance since February 12. Concerned neighbors, unable to contact her, reported the suspicious situation to the police.

Detectives from the Dutse Division swiftly responded, forcing entry into her locked house. Inside, they found Esther’s lifeless body in the sitting room, surrounded by visible cuts on her head and neck, with the body already in an advanced state of decomposition.

Tragically, Esther’s 11-year-old daughter, Christiana Michael, was discovered alive but unconscious, locked in a store with cuts on her head. Both victims were rushed to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital for confirmation and treatment. Esther was confirmed dead by a medical doctor, and her body was subsequently transferred to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) for autopsy.

Recognising the severity of the crime, Commissioner of Police, CP AT Abdullahi, instructed Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Dutse, to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. The Commissioner urged the community to remain calm and cooperate with the police, assuring that the culprits would be brought to justice. He emphasized that anyone found culpable would face prosecution.
