Yobe commences ITN campaign in Fune to tackle malaria
The ITN distribution process has commence in Fune local government to more than 5,000 targeted Households
While speaking to Neptune news in Damagun, the Local Government health promotions officer HPO Malam Garba Audu said the distributiin of the cards has commenced early in the morning today
According to him the issuance of the Insecticide-Treated Net (ITN) cards is to cover more than 5,000 households as part of the ongoing statewide malaria prevention campaign.
He added that the distribution kicked off as scheduled, with Community Distributors, partner’s in attendance conducting house-to-house visits to number of residences and issue ITN cards.

The exercise is being carried out in collaboration with the Yobe State Primary Health Care Management Board and ITN partners.
Malam Garba, said the campaign is part of an integrated effort combining Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) and ITN distribution to eradicate malaria across the state.
He expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation from residents and noted that the campaign covers Fune as a whole targeting children under five and pregnant women.
During a review meeting, officials identified gaps in household data, noting that some homes had more than 20 occupants while others were not available during registration.
The Health Promotion Officer Garba urged health workers to intensify efforts to cover all areas.

He also called on the distributors of Fune LGA, to ensure that beneficiaries are informed to present their old mosquito nets at the point of collection for proper replacement and disposal.
The campaign is being implemented under the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) with funding support from the Global Fund.
More than two million insecticide-treated nets will be distributed across all 17 LGAs, while the final cycle of SMC drug administration — Sulfadoxine-Pyrimethamine plus Amodiaquine (SPAQ) — will be conducted through door-to-door visits.
Household registration and administration of the fourth SMC cycle starts from October 18 to 21, while ITN distribution took place at designated points between August 7 and ends November 10.
Residents have been urged to ensure that someone is available at home to attend to Community Mobilizes and Distributors (CMDs). Caregivers are also advised to ensure their children complete the three-day malaria prevention drug regimen after the first supervised dose.

Officials further encouraged residents to bring their old or damaged mosquito nets for safe disposal, warning against practices harmful to the environment.
