Yobe State Government has described media report by Sahara Reporters claiming that Governor Mai Mala Buni suspended a village head for complaining about water scarcity.

A statement issued by Alhaji Mamman Mohammed,  the Director-General Press and Media Affairs to the Governor said, the purported media report “is just an act of mischief and cheap blackmail intended to mislead the public to give the governor a bad name.

“Surprisingly, we got to know of the purported suspension in the said report. Therefore, His Excellency wouldn’t have taken action on what he has no knowledge of.

“For those who are conversant with the character of His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni, he always has listening ears to peoples’ problems and a very good heart of extending goodwill to solve such problems.”

The report “it becomes ironical for a person with this pedigree, to suddenly reprimand a community leader who is complaining about the public interest.

“The report is unkind to have reduced the personality of a governor to the suspension of a village head.

“It is equally most unfortunate that Sahara Reporters lacked the courtesy and the basic etiquette of reaching out to the relevant quarters to balance and verify their report before going public which is putting the reputation of the media organization to disrepute.

“We, therefore, put the records straight that, Governor Mai Mala Buni, has not heard of any suspension of a village head, has nothing to do with any purported suspension and will never encourage same for anyone who will make a case on behalf of his people.

“It is also imperative to note that education, agriculture and power supply were among key sectors receiving the government’s attention.

“The general public is hereby advised to disregard the baseless and fictitious report in its entirety.”
