Damaturu residents bemoan as Gombe repatriates 125 Almajiris to Yobe

From Sa’adatu MAINA, Damaturu

Damaturu residents expressed worries as Gombe state government deported 125 Almajiris as part of measures to control the spread of Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic in Nigeria.

All the Almajiri returned are Yobe indigenes mostly from Fika, Potiskum and Fune Local governments.

However, the fear among residents may be unconnected from the facts that Gombe is one of the COVID-19 pandemic areas.

Our source said  5 among the recently returned Almajiris from Kano State to Kaduna State were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) as he suspected those returned to Yobe may have contracted the virus.

The Executive Director Networks for Civil Societies, Yobe state Alhaji Baba Shehu has advised the state government not to quickly release them.

He said the Almajiris should be quarantined for the 14 days Nigeria Central Disease Control (NCDC) protocols and their sample should be taken for the test to know their real status.

However, no social distancing protocols or preventive measures were put in place as there was no use of face masks, no handwashing point, at GSS Damaturu hostel where the children would stay for 14 days quarantine period.
