Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa sacked

Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema has dismissed the country’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Ms. Mazuba Monze, following allegations of misconduct.

The decision came after reports emerged that the High Commissioner had requested a male staff member to shave her private parts, an unusual and inappropriate demand. The staff member reportedly refused, citing that such tasks were outside the scope of his duties, especially those involving personal grooming. In response, Ms. Monze allegedly accused the staff of insubordination and dismissed him.

The issue initially went unnoticed until the dismissed staff member appealed the decision, bringing the matter to the attention of Zambia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Upon investigating the allegations, the Ministry found them to be credible, prompting President Hichilema to take immediate action by firing Ms. Monze.

However, some reports suggest the allegations may have been exaggerated or even fabricated. A Zambian national living in South Africa has claimed that a campaign was launched against Ms. Monze, spreading falsehoods to discredit her and ultimately lead to her dismissal.

While the true nature of the incident remains unclear, it has undoubtedly tarnished Zambia’s diplomatic image, raising questions about the behavior and professionalism of its representatives abroad. Further developments are expected as the situation continues to unfold.
