Zulum directs rehabilitation of 2 hospitals, school in Baga

Story from Kasim Isa MUHAMMAD

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has given directives for the urgent rehabilitation of two healthcare facilities and a primary school in the Baga and Doron Baga areas of Kukawa Local Government Area. These communities, situated in the northern part of the state, have been affected by the activities of Boko Haram insurgents.

One of the facilities in need of rehabilitation is the Baga General Hospital, which was close to completion during the previous administration but suffered an attack by insurgents, resulting in severe damage. Governor Zulum emphasized the importance of restoring and fully equipping the hospital, as well as recruiting capable doctors and nurses to provide quality and affordable healthcare services to the community.

To ensure that these facilities are functioning optimally for the benefit of the people, Governor Zulum conducted a staff roll call during his visit. He also approved the procurement and release of essential drugs and medical supplies to enhance patient diagnosis and treatment.

During the visit, Governor Zulum also addressed the immediate needs of the communities by overseeing the distribution of food and non-food palliatives to approximately 23,000 households in three communities. This gesture aims to provide some relief and support to the residents who have been affected by the conflict.

Furthermore, the Governor held strategic meetings with military commanding officers in Doro Baga, Cross Kauwa, and Baga town to discuss plans for accommodating the safe return of numerous residents to their ancestral lands. These discussions are crucial for ensuring the security and well-being of the community members as they resettle.

Accompanying Governor Zulum on this visit were various government officials, including House of Representatives members and representatives from different constituencies. This collaborative effort demonstrates the commitment of the government to addressing the needs of the affected communities and working towards their recovery and development.
