According to a source, who spoke to Neptune Prime, traders had confrontations with the touts due to the incessant collection of levies by the touts from them every time they are offloading their goods. The confrontation which turned violent led to the closure of the market as traders refused to open.

Normalcy has since returned to the market following the arrival of officers at the Ojo Division, according to the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on his verified Twitter handle.

He wrote, “Alaba International Market is calm. Normalcy has been restored. @rrslagos767 and men of Ojo Division are on the ground, under the supervision of Area Commander Festac, ACP Igbafe Afegbai. There is no cause for alarm as monitoring continues.”
