1 killed, 2 injured in Minna gas cylinder explosion

A gas cylinder in a vulcanizer shop in Kpakungun, a suburb in Minna, has exploded, killing one Zakari Aliyu, and injuring two others, Mohammed Usman Baba and Umar Mohammed.

The deceased, Zakari Aliyu, an apprentice, lost his life in the incident, while Mohammed Usman Baba, the shop owner, and his son, Umar Mohammed, sustained injuries.

Eyewitnesses said the explosion took place on Christmas day when the shop owner, Mohammed Usman Baba, used the gas cylinder for a customer and then placed it to be charged.

It was learnt that the cylinder got hot, and the deceased, who was an apprentice of Mohammed, fetched water to pour on it to cool it.

One of the eyewitnesses, Faisal Avuya said “as Zakari poured the water on the cylinder, it blew up and scattered his body. The boss and his son also got injured in the event.

The second wounded victim, Umar Mohammed, who is a son to the shop owner, would require surgery due to serious injuries to his stomach.
