10 benefits of fasting in the month of Ramadan, Tawheed Yakub

1. Obedience to Allah

Fasting is a direct command from Allah in the Qur’an (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:183). Observing it fulfills an important pillar of Islam.

2. Attaining Taqwa (God-Consciousness)

Allah says fasting was prescribed “so that you may become righteous.” It increases awareness of Allah in private and public life.

Good deeds in Ramadan are greatly multiplied. Fasting itself has a special reward from Allah.

5. Strengthens Self-Control

Fasting teaches patience, discipline, and control over desires such as food, drink, and anger.

6. Develops Empathy for the Poor

Feeling hunger helps us understand the struggles of the less privileged, encouraging charity and kindness.

7. Spiritual Purification

Ramadan cleanses the heart from sins, pride, and bad habits, bringing a person closer to Allah.

8. Improved Character

The Prophet (ﷺ) taught that fasting is not just from food, but also from lying, arguing, and bad speech.

9. Physical Benefits

Fasting gives the digestive system rest and can improve metabolism when done properly.
