17 victims of flood induced building collapse rescued, receiving treatment in Yobe (Photos)

With the support of volunteers, the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA) has evacuated 17 victims from 4 HH to Specialist Hospital Damaturu after the area was flooded by heavy downpour at midnight on Saturday resulting in collapse of the structure.

The victims comprising 6 adults, 7 children and 4 infants are said to be currently on admission and receiving treatment free at the Yobe State Specialist Hospital.

Around 12:30 midnight of Saturday after the heavy rainfall in Damaturu which resulted to over-flooding in communities behind the white House in Damaturu, Ali Marami, the Executive Secretary (ES) of YOSEMA received a distress call of building collapse in which victims including children and infants were trapped.

One man was said to have died in the disaster.

The ES thanked the medical team at the State Specialist Hospital Damaturu Accident and Emergency Unit for their tremendous effort in responding to the victims.

Meanwhile In a telephone interview with one of the daughters of the deceased, Aisha Mohammed, she said that her father, Malam Mohammed Zubairu was killed when their house collapsed on him during the rainfall.
