2026 WCQ: Chelle provides injury update on Osimhen ahead of South Africa clash

Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has provided an injury update on striker Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen sustained an injury in the first half of Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Amavubi of Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, on Saturday.

The 26-year-old was replaced by Panathinaikos’ new signing, Cyriel Dessers.

Speaking with reporters after the game, Chelle revealed that the Galatasaray striker will be assessed ahead of the game against South Africa.

“I can’t say much about Victor for now. He has pain in his ankle, we will see when he wake up tomorrow,” the Malian said.

“I have to also discuss with the team doctors to see whether he will be available for the game.”
