3 traffic officers suspended following brawl over bribe
The Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency has suspended three of its female officers who were caught on camera engaged in a physical fight with a police traffic officer at Aroma Junction in Awka, the state capital.
The altercation reportedly stemmed from a dispute over money alleged to have been given to the officers by a motorist.
A video circulating on social media depicted the four female officers three from ARTMA and one from the police throwing punches while still in their uniforms at their duty post.
The incident caused significant traffic disruption, as the fight unfolded in the middle of the road, drawing a large crowd and slowing down motorists who gathered to witness the commotion.

The footage of the officers fighting over monetary disputes while on duty has prompted widespread criticism online after it went viral.
In response to the incident, Emeka Okonkwo, Managing Director and CEO of ARTMA, expressed regret in a press statement on Thursday, emphasising that such behavior contradicts the agency’s standards and values.
The statement read in part, “The Anambra State Road Traffic Agency acknowledges the recent altercation involving three of our personnel, who were filmed in a physical confrontation over monetary disputes with a member of another traffic agency at Aroma Junction while on duty.
“We wish to assure the public that we have conducted a thorough investigation into the matter, resulting in the immediate suspension of the personnel involved, pending further disciplinary actions.
“ARTMA has long been recognized for its commitment to maintaining order and effective road management in Anambra State.
This incident does not reflect the standards and values upheld by our agency. We deeply regret the conduct of these individuals and understand the negative impact it may have had on public trust.”
Okonkwo reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to delivering reliable and professional traffic management in the state.
