63-year-old woman arrested for inter-state child trafficking

Story by Susan Mbamah

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested Ngozi Muotuanya, a 63-year-old woman, for her alleged involvement in an inter-state child trafficking scheme.
According to a statement from police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, operatives from the Oba Division apprehended the suspect on August 11, acting on “credible intelligence.”

Preliminary investigations revealed that in 2024, Muotuanya allegedly stole a one-year-old boy in Minna, Niger State, and sold him to a buyer in Anambra. The child was then resold to another individual who, upon discovering the boy was stolen, returned him to the suspect on August 4.

Ikenga stated that Muotuanya then allegedly abandoned the boy at an unidentified church in Minna, where the leader of the Igbo community later rescued him.

The Anambra Police Command has since shared details about the child’s temporary custodian with the Niger State Police Command to help facilitate his recovery and potential reunion with his parents.
Muotuanya will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for further investigation and prosecution.
