Court in Adamawa remands lover who killed rival over girlfriend

An 18-year-old man, Idrissa Muhammadu, has been remanded in prison custody in Yola, Adamawa State for allegedly killing one Adamu Zumdi with a cutlass over a girl.

The Chief Magistrate, Mohammed Buba, of Magistrate Court 1, ordered the arraignment of the defendant on a 1 count charge culpable homicide.

Judge Buba said that the defendant should be held pending legal advice from the state Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Idrissa, who resides at Marinawo village in Pella District, Hong local government area of the state hacked his love rival, Adamu Zumdi, of the same address to death.

The tragic death, according to the prosecution, was caused by the defendant who allegedly used his cutlass and hacked his rival to death.

Adamu who sustained deep matchet cuts was rushed to General Hospital Hong for medical attention but was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

While in court for the mention, the prosecutor, Inspector S. S. Nicholas, informed the court that the father of the deceased, Alhaji Jobdi of Song LGA had reported the matter to the police.

Neptune Prime understands that the defendant and the deceased once exchanged blows at a local market over a girl and since then, there was a deep-rooted animosity between the duo.

The last trow that broke the camel’s back was that late Adamu was said to have flashed a torch light on the defendant’s face by 6:00 pm on 14th May 2022 and that the action of the deceased provoked the defendant, who as a result pounced on him and macheted him to death.

During the arraignment, the defendant pleaded guilty to the alleged offence which contravenes section 191 of the Penal Code law, 2018.
