USAID IHP supports Bauchi with N1.2 billion for 2022 healthcare development

Story from Kalmana AFSA, Bauchi

The Integrated Health Project (IHP) in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has donated the sum of N1.2 billion and some medical equipment with some primary healthcare extension items to strengthen primary healthcare centres in Bauchi State.

Presenting the items, the state director of USAID IHP in Bauchi Dr Siaka Alhassan said the items are meant to serve the rural and hard-to-reach communities.

The items consist of stethoscopes, thermometers, and weighing scales. Others are hospital screens and sphygmomanometers, which will be distributed to the 20 local government areas of the state.

Alhassan said, “We are also giving out Mama Kits that contain sanitary pad, soap, hand gloves, and chlorhexidine to encourage hospital delivery as most poor and vulnerable pregnant women find it difficult to buy essential items needed for delivery.

Siaka said these job aids will assist the health facilities and communities with useful and basic communication.

Receiving the items, the chairman of Bauchi State Primary HealthCare Development Agency, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, acknowledged that the medical equipment donated will eliminate and bridge gaps in the 323 main PHC per ward in the state.

Rilwanu noted that government alone could not provide basic healthcare, as the lack of essential facilities has forced many pregnant women to deliver at home.

He added that the Agency would closely monitor the items while disclosing that the sum of 42,831,200 has been expanded on the purchase of Mama Kits and the PHC extension materials.
