Adamawa governor tasked to constitute implementation c’ttee for child protection law

Story from Usman IBRAHIM, Yola

The Child Protection Network (CPN) in Adamawa has appealed to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to constitute state and local government committees for the implementation of the state’s Child Protection Law.

Mr Sunday Kadiri, state coordinator of the network, made the appeal in an interview with newsmen in Yola on Monday.

He said, “It’s like there is no law if the committees are not in place”.

Kadiri added that the biggest concern of the CPN even before the passage of the law was how it would be implemented, adding that the CPN has been concerned about the plight of children in the state so it would continue to push for the implementation of the law.

“We are appealing to the governor to constitute implementation committees both at the state and local government levels,” he added.

The Coordinator advised parents to ensure the proper upbringing of their children to enable them to succeed in life.

He added that parents should not allow their wards to be used by other people for mischief.

“These children are our assets, it’s no longer business as usual, take good care of them because the law can catch both parents and the perpetrators”, he said.

Speaking further, Kadiri urged those using children as labourers to desist, as the new law has provisions to protect children from such abuse.

He commended Fintiri for signing the Act on Nov. 1, and the state assembly for their efforts and concern for children in the state.

“We thank the Ministry of Women Affairs and social development in collaboration with the Rule of law Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) programme with support from Ace-Charity and MALALA, we appreciate the help for the passing of the bill”, he appreciated.
