A total of 172 goals was recorded at the just concluded FIFA World Cup in Qatar, making it the highest in goals scored in the global tournament.
France 98 and Brazil 2014 World Cups had 171 goals each after the sound of the final whistle.

Also, another record in Qatar was the elimination of big European giants like Spain Germany at group stages and triumph of Cameroon being the first African country to defeat Brazil in a World Cup, Morocco tasted history by being the first African country to advance to the quarter finals.
These also include one of the historic finals to be ever witnessed in the game of football seen Argentina winning the tournament narrowly against a Kylian Mbappe-resuscitated France side.
However, this edition of the World Cup have come with another great record as it has now surpassed the France 1998 and Brazil 2014 editions by having most goal scored.
172 goals were scored in Qatar 2022 compared to the 171 goals scored in both France 1998 and Brazil 1994 editions of the tournament.
The editions of the tournament where the least goals were recorded in the past years have been USA 1994 and South Africa 2010 with both editions recording 141 and 143 respectively.
