President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Dr Mrs Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein as Nigeria’s first female Accountant General of the Federation (AGF).

In a circular dated Friday, May 19, 2023, signed by Mohammed Abdullahi Ahmed, the spokesman of the Civil Service of the Federation, the appointment was confirmed on behalf of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Folasade Yemi Esan (CFR).

The circular stated that President Buhari approved Madein’s appointment, making her the first woman to hold the position in a substantive capacity.

The appointment followed a successful selection process to fill the existing vacancy. It further specified that the appointment was effective from Thursday, May 18, 2023, and directed Madein to assume her duties immediately.

The announcement of Madein’s appointment was also made through a statement issued by the President’s spokesman, Mohammed Ahmed.

The statement highlighted President Buhari’s approval and the selection process conducted to fill the vacancy. It confirmed that Madein’s appointment as the substantive Accountant-General of the Federation is effective from Thursday, May 18, 2023.

Dr (Mrs) Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, born on March 7, 1965, in Iperu Remo Ikenne Local Government Area (LGA) of Ogun State, brings a wealth of experience to her new role.

Prior to her appointment, she served as the Director of Finance and Accounts in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF). Madein holds a PhD in Management Finance from Walden University in Minnesota, USA.

In January of this year, Madein was shortlisted alongside 19 other candidates for the position of AGF. Her appointment as Nigeria’s first female AGF marks a significant milestone in the country’s history.
