Mompha denies EFCC’s re-arrest, calls claims “laughable”

Ismaila Mustapha, widely known as Mompha, a prominent social media celebrity, has denied rumours of being re-arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for an alleged N6 billion money laundering case.

In a Friday Instagram Live video, Mompha reassured his followers that he had not been taken into custody by the EFCC.

To emphasize his point, he was seen dancing to Timaya’s popular song, “Sweet Us,” clearly indicating his freedom and absence from EFCC detention.

Moreover, Mompha issued a public statement titled “Idan was not arrested by EFCC; 33BG is not in EFCC custody.”

He urged the EFCC to refrain from conducting a “media trial,” stating that their claim of him being in their custody and due to appear in court on July 3, 2023, was false.

“Contrary to recent publications in various Nigerian media platforms, claiming that I, Mompha, was rearrested by the EFCC, I want to use this opportunity to expose the corrupt and mischievous nature of the commission once again. I was neither rearrested nor am I in their custody,” he wrote.

He further ridiculed the EFCC’s assertion, calling it “laughable” because he was not even in Nigeria at the time.

Mompha also criticized the EFCC for what he perceived as a witch-hunt against him and for leveraging his popularity for their own benefit.

Concluding his statement, the celebrity expressed gratitude to his numerous followers and well-wishers for their concern, assuring them that he was safe and currently enjoying time with his family in Dubai.
