Yobe police nab couple for posing as Christians seeking to convert to Islam inorder to rob Imams

The Yobe State Police Command has successfully apprehended a couple, Abdullahi Ibrahim (25) and Khadija Ali (20), who posed as Christians and deceived people by claiming to convert to Islam, only to rob them of their belongings.

The spokesperson for the police command, DSP Dungus Abdulkareem, confirmed the incident, stating that the couple approached the Gudi Emirate Council in Fika LGA, presenting themselves as Jude Emmanuel and Peace Sunday from Plateau State.

Abdulkareem added that they pretended to be interested in converting to Islam and were accepted by the council, placed under the custody of the Chief Imam for guidance and teachings.

However, a day later, Abdullahi Ibrahim informed the Imam that he was experiencing bad dreams and needed debris from a spot where lightning had struck to collect ash for a supposed remedy.

The Imam, however, urged his son to accompany Abdullahi to the suggested spot, where Abdullahi collected some dust.

On the third day, Abdullahi requested to visit the same spot to collect dust for his wife.

Which the Imam also obliged and instructed his son to take them there on his motorcycle. However, upon reaching the spot, the couple robbed the Imam’s son of his motorcycle and fled.

The matter was reported to the Fika Division, and the police initiated a search for the culprits, where the couple was later spotted in Biu LGA, Borno State, engaging in similar fraudulent activities.

Neptune Prime learned that detectives from the division promptly responded and apprehended the suspects.

During the investigation, it was discovered that Abdullahi Ibrahim was actually from Yobe State and a practicing Muslim, residing in Sabon Garin Mai Mala, Gujba LGA. Khadija Ali, his wife, hailed from Gombe State.

Further information revealed that the couple had a history of engaging in criminal activities in various locations, including Azare in Bauchi State, Gwalam in Adamawa State, Madaci Gaya in Kano State, and Biu in Borno State, among others.
