Bandits open fire at Nigerian Immigration office, kill 2 officers 

 

Bandits have launched a deadly attack on the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) station at Garin Garba, near Kangiwa, the headquarters of Arewa Local Government Area in Kebbi State killing two officers.

The assailants reportedly opened fire during the attack, resulting in the death of Isa Nafiu and Garba Haruna Fana.

 

The attack, which occurred on Monday, sent shockwaves through the community, marking another distressing episode of insecurity in the Northwest region of Nigeria.

The spokesperson for the state police command, DSI Abdullahi Isa, confirmed the incident in a statement released in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.

“On a sad note, on Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, a group of suspected bandits launched an attack on Immigration officers at Garin Garba entry point, about 12 kilometers away from Kangiwa headquarters of Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi.

“As a result, two gallant officers lost their lives. They are: Isa Nafi’u (II) NIS No. 34057 and Garba Haruna Fana (II) NIS No. 17796.”

The attack underscores the persistent security challenges faced by law enforcement agencies and public servants in the region.
