Bauchi police arrest undergraduate with locally made gun
A 400-level student of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, identified as Mike Habila, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly being in possession of firearms.
This was revealed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Ahmed Wakil, in a statement released to reporters on Wednesday.
According to Wakil, the suspect claimed that the firearms belonged to one Samson Irimiya, who had previously been arrested and is currently in custody, undergoing investigation.
The arrest took place on January 13, 2024, at approximately 2 pm, when detectives from the C’ Divisional Police Headquarters, led by the DPO, SP Abubakar Pindiga, acted on credible intelligence from a vigilante group.
Mike James Habila was apprehended at his student residence in Gubi village, Bauchi, for illegal possession of firearms.
“Preliminary investigation uncovered that the suspects had illegally possessed two different types of firearms which include one locally-made gun, one locally-made pistol and 9mm live ammunition.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime. His statement was recorded under the word of caution and he claimed that the weapons belonged to one Samson Irimiya alias Zaddeos, male, who was previously arrested for being in possession of a locally made pistol on May 24, 2021.

“Thereafter, a search warrant was executed. Investigation is in progress to truncate all related cases of firearms in Bauchi.”
This is coming barely a month after a 300-level student of the institution was arrested for being in possession of a revolver pistol and a cartridge.
The suspect, Atim Emmanuel, was said to have been arrested while coming out of the university campus.
The police spokesman added that a case of criminal breach of trust, forgery criminal misappropriation, and obtaining money under false pretense was reported at Area Command by one Abdulrahman Auwal.
He said the victims individually entrusted one Timothy Oseni of Yelwa Anguwan Kusu Bauchi with N663,000, in his business centre situated within the compound of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Yelwa campus for their school fees registration.
“On receipt of the complaint, a team of detectives attached to the Area Command Metro swung into action and arrested the culprits.
“Preliminary Investigation revealed that the accused person dishonestly and fraudulently collected the alleged amount for the registration and later fraudulently used a wasted registration slip, edited and presented it to them as their registration slip.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to having forged many registrations slip for students of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi,” he said.
The police spokesman said that investigation is still ongoing, after which the suspect will be charged.
