Military has abandoned Guzamala LG for terrorists to operate – Borno Speaker

Story from Usman UMAR

Following the abduction of four passengers along the Maiduguri-Damaturu Highway in Borno by suspected Boko Haram terrorists, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan, has accused the military and other security agencies of neglecting Guzamala Local Council to the benefit of insurgents.

Honourable Lawan urged the Federal Government and military to deploy more security personnel to the area and provide necessary assistance to protect the civilians.

Borno State acting Governor Umar Kadafur has earlier announced the formation of a committee to return the internally displaced persons to their homes in Guzamala.

Neptune Prime reports that terrorists operated for hours along the Maiduguri-Damaturu Highway near Auno Village on Tuesday evening.

The highway is 25 kilometres away from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

According to a witness, the militants blocked the road and forcibly took four passengers who were traveling to Maiduguri.

A resident of Auno, Bana Modu, stated that the exact number of abducted passengers is unknown as most passengers ran for safety initially.

The militants operated in the area for over an hour before the police arrived at the scene without apprehending the kidnappers.

Modu explained that the terrorists initially appeared on the road with wheelbarrows, pretending to be searching for food items.

Some of the drivers who were attacked returned to Maiduguri before military reinforcements arrived.

An anonymous passenger mentioned that they were traveling from Maiduguri to Kano when the driver heard gunshots, prompting a return to Maiduguri.

The passengers were stranded for over six hours before the military cleared the road for motorists.
