Senate suspends Abdul Ningi for 3 months following budget padding allegations
The Senate under the leadership of Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday, suspended Senator Abdul Ningi from Bauchi Central Senatorial District for a period of three months following allegations of budget padding in the 2024 Budget.
The decision was reached after a lengthy and tumultuous session in the red chamber led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
During the session, a motion for Ningi’s suspension for 12 months was initially put forward by Jimoh Ibrahim, a member of the Appropriation Committee.

The motion cited allegations of criminal misinformation and breach of peace within the National Assembly and the country at large.
However, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, representing Cross River South Senatorial District, proposed an amendment to the motion, advocating for a reduced suspension period. After deliberation, it was agreed that Senator Abdul Ningi would be suspended for a duration of 3 months in light of the budget padding allegations.
