Aston Villa’s top-four bid rocked at Brighton as Chelsea dominate West Ham
Aston Villa’s dream of securing a top-four finish in the Premier League took a hit with a disappointing 1-0 loss to Brighton. Chelsea, on the other hand, cruised to a 5-0 victory against West Ham to keep their hopes of European qualification alive.
Villa needed a win and a Tottenham loss to seal a Champions League spot, but Joao Pedro’s late goal sealed their fate as they suffered a second defeat in four days. Despite their best efforts, Villa couldn’t break Brighton’s resilience, ending their six-match winless streak.
Remaining in fourth place, Villa are still seven points ahead of fifth-placed Tottenham, who have two games in hand. With matches against Liverpool and Crystal Palace on the horizon, Villa are fighting to secure a return to the Champions League after a long absence.
Meanwhile, at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea put on a dominant display to leapfrog Manchester United into seventh place. Mauricio Pochettino’s future at Chelsea remains uncertain, but a strong finish to the season could secure his position at the club.
