Troops neutralise 4 bandits in Kaduna operation

Troops from Operation Sanity of the Nigerian Army have successfully neutralised four bandits in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

This operation was confirmed by Samuel Aruwan, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, on Tuesday.

Aruwan reported that the troops encountered the bandits in the Alawa and Kwaga regions of Birnin Gwari, leading to a fierce gunfight that resulted in the elimination of two criminals.

During the operation, the soldiers recovered two AK-47 rifles, three magazines, three motorcycles, and a Baofeng radio from the bandits.

Additionally, 13 hostages were rescued from a kidnappers’ hideout in the Kachia Local Government Area.

The rescue mission was set in motion following credible intelligence suggesting that bandits were relocating their captives into the area. The troops acted swiftly, engaging in a shootout that forced the bandits to abandon their hostages.

In a related operation, troops from Sector 6 of Operation Whirl Punch patrolled around Nakwakina village in Giwa Local Government Area, where they neutralised two bandits who had been harassing local residents.

Acting on solid intelligence, the troops set an ambush along a suspected terrorist route, leading to a gun battle that left two bandits dead, while others managed to escape with injuries.

Furthermore, Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Punch responded to a distress call along the Kwaga-Polewire Road in Birnin-Gwari, intercepting bandits who had kidnapped locals near Polewire village. Upon noticing the troops, the bandits fled, leaving behind 20 kidnapped victims.

The rescued individuals have since reunited with their families.

Governor Uba Sani has expressed his appreciation for the military’s efforts, particularly under the leadership of Maj Gen Mayirenso Saraso, General Officer Commanding the One Mechanised Division.

He commended their successful operations and the rescue of victims in the Birnin Gwari area, urging the troops to maintain their resolve in combating banditry and insurgency in Kaduna State and the surrounding regions.
