Edo Election: Cast your votes and return home, police tell residents

The Nigeria Police Force has advised voters participating in today’s Edo State governorship election to cast their ballots and return home immediately afterward. Deputy Inspector General of Police, Frank Mba, emphasized that only those accredited for election-related duties will be allowed to remain outside.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, DIG Mba stated, “If you are not accredited, just come, perform your civic duty, cast your vote, and return home.” He reassured the public that comprehensive measures have been put in place to ensure a smooth electoral process.
In addressing concerns about vote buying, DIG Mba acknowledged the difficulty of managing this issue, stating that while many incidents occur out of public view, the police will take action against those detected. “Vote buying is one of the most difficult offences to manage,” he explained, “but our pledge is that the ones that happen in the glare of the public will be dealt with.”

In preparation for the election, Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has imposed a movement restriction throughout Edo State today, prohibiting unauthorized security personnel and VIP escorts from polling locations. The IGP confirmed that vehicular movement will be limited from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, with exceptions for essential services, including accredited media, electoral officials, ambulances, and emergency responders.
As Edo State residents head to the polls to choose from 17 candidates vying for the governorship, the police urge everyone to participate actively and ensure their safety during the electoral process. The stakes are high, and voters are encouraged to exercise their rights while adhering to the guidelines set by law enforcement.
