Father recounts daughter’s tragic kidnapping in Abuja

In a heart-wrenching interview with Crusaders Radio this afternoon, Alhaji Suleiman Abdullahi, father of the late Nimatullah Suleiman, shared the devastating story of his daughter’s kidnapping and untimely death. Nimatullah, who had recently completed her national service and was working at a private radio station, resided in Jahi quarters. The incident occurred one Thursday evening as she was returning home from work.

Alhaji Abdullahi recounted that Nimatullah had been dropped off at Bega Junction around 6:10 PM. Shortly after, at approximately 6:20 PM, she made a frantic call to her boss, informing him that she had been abducted and that her captors were demanding a ransom of one million Naira. Her boss communicated with the kidnappers, assuring them that efforts were underway to raise the demanded sum.

Though some funds were transferred to the kidnappers, the exact amount remains unclear. Nimatullah’s uncle, Dauda, who was in Benin, attempted to track her location, and for a brief time, they were able to trace her. However, contact with the kidnappers was lost between 7:00 and 8:00 PM.

Later in the evening, the abductors sent a message to Nimatullah’s elder brother, Mukhtar, directing him to Maitama Hospital, where Nimatullah had been taken in a critical state. Fearing for their father’s health, the family delayed informing Alhaji Abdullahi of the gravity of the situation until later that night. Upon arrival at the hospital, the family found Nimatullah in a deep state of unconsciousness.

Alhaji Abdullahi remained at home, anxiously awaiting updates from his sons who were at the hospital. His worst fears were confirmed when his son Nazir returned home around 2:00 AM, and with a solemn nod, conveyed the devastating news that Nimatullah had passed away.
