Kwankwaso, Duke meet Obasanjo in Abeokuta

Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, hosted two prominent political figures, former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso and former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke, at his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday, December 14, 2024.

The meeting, which took place at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), focused on “significant national issues, including the future of politics and governance in Nigeria,” as revealed by Kwankwaso in a statement shared on his official X account.

“I was pleased to be in the company of my friend, HE Donald Duke, and other associates to pay a courtesy call on President Olusegun Obasanjo at his residence in Abeokuta,” Kwankwaso stated. He added, “Deliberations on significant national issues, including the future of politics and governance in Nigeria, defined the conversation. We are grateful to Baba for his warm support and hospitality.”

Although specifics about the discussions remain unclear, political analysts speculate that the 2027 general elections and their potential implications for Nigeria’s political landscape were at the heart of the meeting.

This is not the first time Kwankwaso has met with Obasanjo to discuss matters of national importance. Last month, the former president attended the wedding ceremony of Kwankwaso’s daughter in Kano, where he donned the signature red cap of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

The event was also attended by top political and business leaders, reflecting the deep connections within Nigeria’s political elite.
