Monarch escapes death as arsonists attack palace

In a shocking incident over the weekend, the palace of HRH Emmanuel Akamisoko Dauda-Shelika, the Etsu Nupe Lokoja, was invaded by arsonists who set fire to a vehicle on the premises.

The attack reportedly began around 1:00 am on Saturday, taking the monarch by surprise.

Describing the harrowing experience, the Etsu Lokoja recounted, “I was awakened by a loud bang on my door. As I peered through the window, I was horrified to see flames engulfing my car, which had been deliberately set on fire by the attackers.”

Realising the gravity of the situation, the monarch chose not to confront the invaders directly, fearing for his safety. Instead, he managed to escape through the back door and scaled the palace fence to seek refuge.

Despite the valiant efforts of his neighbors, the flames claimed his vehicle and other belongings within the palace.

The Etsu has since called on government officials and security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident and hold those responsible accountable.

In light of this attack, he urged the Nupe community in Lokoja to refrain from any retaliatory actions and to remain peaceful and law-abiding.

“Let us allow the government and security agencies to conduct a comprehensive investigation into this unfortunate event. It is crucial that we maintain our commitment to peaceful coexistence,” he implored.

The incident occurs just as the Nupe Natives of Lokoja Development Union were preparing for the 2nd Edition of the “Lokoja ’24 Nupe Cultural Fiesta,” adding to the community’s distress.
