In politics and public service, people are undoubtedly the greatest treasure. However, politicians often build their loyalists in one of three dimensions: some focus on local areas, others on zonal dominance, and a few aim to become conventional champion.

I had a firsthand experience of Dr. Geidam’s generosity during a recent visit to Gashua, where I served as the Chief Photographer at the wedding Fatiha of his younger brother’s second wife. Unlike many weddings that attract few attendees, this event drew people from all three senatorial zones of the state, a testament to Dr. Geidam’s widespread influence.
While working at the Government Lodge, I witnessed Dr. Geidam’s characteristic generosity. True to form, as he distributed reasonable money to disabled individuals who attended the event. His act of kindness caught the attention of onlookers, sparking an interesting conversation.
A young man, seemingly unfamiliar with Dr. Geidam’s reputation, asked, “Ni ya aka yi ban san wannan mutumin ba?” (Why l don’t know this man?). Another young man, Babba, responded quickly, “That is Dr. Mustapha Abba Geidam, the super Permanent Secretary. He is known for his generosity he gives money even when meeting people for the first time. And when he identifies your potential, he uplifts you as if you are his own.”
My personal journey with Dr. Geidam was transformative. During my second year at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. I struggled with a 2:2 CGPA and was often tempted to quit during a conversation with my cousin, Adam, a businessman in Lagos, left me torn between financial stability and my dream of becoming the first graduate in my family. At a crucial moment, I met Dr. Geidam during his visit to ABU while pursuing a Advanced degree. After a long day, I escorted them around, and Dr. Geidam’s remark, “Aluta ga wanan, kasha ruwa,” that became a source of motivation. Those words and his generosity inspired me to resist my cousin’s offer and focus on my academics.
By the time Dr. Geidam completed his program, I had raised my CGPA to a strong 2:1. I went on to graduate with Upper Degree and became a prominent figure in ABU politics, earning the nickname “Eagle” for my leadership and electoral influence.
In the years that followed, my friendship with Kasim from Dr’s family, we grew stronger. As NUYOSS Presidents at UNIMAID and l for ABU, we developed a bond of mutual respect and political collaboration. Kasim’s support remained invaluable as I rose to become the National Speaker of NUYOSS, solidifying our enduring partnership in leadership.
My admiration for Dr. Geidam stems not only from his personal support but also from his consistent mentorship of many others. I cannot count the number of people I introduced to him who benefitted from his unprecedented generosity, whether through sponsoring initiatives, funding campaigns, or offering advices. His impact on my life and the lives of others is immeasurable.
Dr. Mustapha Abba Geidam is a visionary leader whose dedication to youth development and mentorship sets a powerful example of leadership. His commitment to empowering young people through education and guidance fosters growth and opportunity. Through his actions, he exemplifies the principles of integrity, selflessness, and service, inspiring others to follow in his footsteps.
