Court approves 60-day detention for Boko Haram/ISWAP suspects

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has granted the Department of State Services (DSS) permission to detain ten suspected terrorists for 60 days pending further investigation.

The suspects were reportedly planning to establish a Boko Haram/ISWAP cell in Osun State.

The DSS arrested the individuals on December 16, 2024, in Ilesa East Local Government Area, Osun State, on suspicion of terrorism-related activities.

Preliminary investigations revealed the suspects’ involvement in manufacturing and deploying Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and their escape from Sambisa Forest following military offensives against the late Abubakar Shekau’s faction.

In addition, Justice Nwite approved the detention of two other suspects, Ayomide Akintunde and Nurudeen Adesiyan, arrested on December 19, 2024, in Modakeke, Ife East LGA, Osun State.

DSS intelligence, supported by foreign reports, linked the suspects to a Moroccan terrorist involved in jihadist publications and acquiring firearms for attacks in Nigeria.

The court adjourned both cases to March 3, 2025, as investigations continue to identify and apprehend other members of the terror groups.
