19 wedding guests burnt beyond recognition in car accident

The Kwana Maciji area of Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State has been thrown into mourning as a tragic accident has claimed the lives of 19 guests after attending a wedding ceremony in the state.

John Dasar, the Chairman of the Parkshin LGA emergency management committee confirmed that the victims came from Kano State and that they were on their way back home to Kano when the accident happened.

He stated that while the rescue effort was ongoing, the vehicle caught fire and 19 people were burnt as they were yet to be evacuated.

He said, “The accident happened on Saturday, the people were from Kano, they came for a wedding ceremony at Barkin Ladi. They were returning home and were to pass through Gindiri to Bauchi which is a shorter route.

“The driver and a few others survived but 19 of them were burnt beyond recognition because when the accident happened, the people were being helped out of the vehicle when it caught fire and trapped the deceased.”

The survivors of the incident were rushed to the Pankshin General Hospital while the Chairman, Pankshin Local Government Area, Felix Gonung was accompanied by the Health CouncillorLengyang Tali, The Police DPO, Pankshin, The Federal Road Safety Corps, Pankshin LGA went with him to visit the victims.

The Pankshin LGA chair, Gonung arranged for the victims to be moved to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for intensive care.

The others whose injuries were minor were treated and transported back to Kano State.
