10 killed, 3 injured in Damaturu-Maiduguri crash
The police in Yobe have reported that 10 people died and three others were injured in an accident on the Damaturu-Maiduguri road.
SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the police spokesperson, confirmed the incident in an interview on Tuesday.
According to Abdulkarim, the accident occurred at a security checkpoint in Warsala Town around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, when a truck carrying cement and passengers collided with a car before plunging into a ditch. Out of the 13 passengers aboard the truck, 10 died instantly, while the three others sustained injuries.
The injured were transported to the Specialist Hospital in Damaturu for medical treatment. Investigations revealed that the truck lost control, struck the car at the checkpoint, and then veered into the ditch. The driver of the car, who was alone, survived the crash without injuries, although the vehicle was severely damaged.
