FIFA sets $50 million reward for 2026 world cup champions
FIFA has announced that the winners of the 2026 World Cup will receive $50 million, as part of a record total prize fund of $655 million for the tournament.
This represents an increase of almost 50 percent compared to the $440 million shared among teams at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The 2026 tournament will be held from June 11 to July 19 across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. It will also be the first World Cup to feature 48 teams, expanding from the previous 32-team format.

At the 2022 edition, Argentina earned $42 million after defeating France on penalties in the final, while France received $30 million as runners-up.
Under the new prize structure, the losing finalists in 2026 will earn $33 million, third-place teams will receive $29 million, and the remaining semi-finalists will collect $27 million each. Teams eliminated at the group stage will be awarded $9 million. In addition, all 48 participating countries will receive $1.5 million to cover preparation costs.
FIFA said the increase in prize money reflects its plan to make the 2026 World Cup the largest and most financially rewarding tournament in history, driven by the expanded format and growing global interest in football.
