Fire outbreak destroys over 50 shops
An early morning fire outbreak has razed more than 50 shops at the Fatima Simra Multi-Purpose Market located in the Dakata area of Kano State, leaving traders counting heavy losses.
The blaze reportedly erupted around 5:40 a.m. on Friday and spread quickly through the busy market, which houses businesses involved in plastics, nylon recycling, and oil-related trading activities. Thick smoke was said to have engulfed large sections of the market as shop owners scrambled to salvage their goods.

Market officials confirmed that the Kano State Fire Service was contacted shortly after the fire started, while local residents and traders made frantic efforts to contain the flames before firefighters arrived.

Although no fatalities have been officially reported, properties and merchandise worth millions of naira are believed to have been destroyed in the incident. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown as authorities are expected to launch a full investigation.
The latest outbreak adds to growing concerns over recurring market fires in Kano, coming shortly after another major blaze affected traders in a separate commercial hub within the state.
