Iranian Ambassador meets Chief Imam of Nigeria’s national mosque to strengthen religious and cultural ties

The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Mr. Ghalamreza Mahdavi Raja, on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Imam of the National Mosque, Abuja, Professor Ibrahim Ahmed Makari, in a meeting aimed at reinforcing religious and cultural relations.

During the meeting, both dignitaries engaged in extensive discussions on issues of mutual religious interest, interfaith dialogue, and avenues for enhancing cultural and scholarly cooperation between Islamic institutions. They emphasized the importance of fostering understanding, tolerance, and collaboration among Muslim communities in Nigeria and Iran.

The Ambassador reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to promoting peaceful religious engagement and cultural exchange, while Professor Makari welcomed initiatives that encourage dialogue and unity within the global Muslim community. The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to sustain constructive engagement and explore practical frameworks for continued cooperation.
