Court approves Yahaya Bello’s request to spend final 10 days of Ramadan in Saudi Arabia
A Federal High Court has granted former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, permission to travel to Saudi Arabia to observe the last 10 days of the Ramadan fast.
The approval followed an application filed by Bello’s legal team, seeking the court’s consent for him to undertake the religious trip while his case remains pending. The former governor is currently standing trial over alleged financial improprieties.

In its ruling, the court held that the request was reasonable and granted it with strict conditions to ensure Bello’s return to Nigeria. The judge ordered that the former governor must adhere to all existing bail terms and report back to court immediately after completing the religious exercise.
The court also directed that Bello’s travel itinerary and other relevant details be made available to the appropriate authorities as part of measures to guarantee compliance.

Bello, who served as Kogi State governor between 2016 and 2024, has consistently denied all allegations against him. His counsel argued that the trip was purely for religious purposes and posed no risk to the ongoing proceedings.
The case has been adjourned to a later date for continuation of trial.
